October kicked off Manufacturing month, and Walmart is proud to show our support for U.S. manufacturing this month through initiatives such as Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) and our tenth annual Open Call.
MFG Day, an initiative of the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute, engages policy makers, manufacturing companies, businesses, parents, teachers and students of all ages to highlight the realities of modern manufacturing careers.
This October is also special because, for the first time, Walmart is hosting our annual Open Call pitch competition during Manufacturing month. This year's event will provide opportunities for more than 850 small and medium-sized businesses with goods made, grown or assembled in the U.S. to become Walmart suppliers, enabling them to expand their U.S. manufacturing footprint and create jobs. Open Call is a key part of Walmart's 10-year, $350 billion commitment to strengthening U.S. manufacturing.
Manufacturing Month is an opportunity to tell the real stories of Americans whose lives have been impacted by Walmart’s investment in American manufacturing and demonstrate how manufacturing drives job creation, economic growth, upward mobility and local community impact.
Walmart has been helping to connect consumers to the stories behind the products they buy on our shelves and the jobs and local economies those products support. Our Manufacturing Month 2023 efforts will spotlight the people that dream up the products on Walmart shelves across the country – our suppliers.
