Walmart is all about helping people live better – offering products at a great price from suppliers you can trust, many of whom are right in your backyard. Sourcing close to our customers allows you to get the freshest ingredients possible, which makes for a delicious meal your family loves. So, this Taco Tuesday, we are living better with tacos - throwing together some of our favorite items from right here in the U.S.
These are just a few of thousands of examples of how Walmart is doing our part to source products in communities across America. As part of our goal to invest $350 billion in products made, grown or assembled in the U.S., we’re working with suppliers creating a positive impact on local communities and delivering some of the best products to our customers at an affordable price.
Tortillas
Founder Veronica Moreno began going door to door selling tortillas in the suburbs of Atlanta, in the 1980s. Today, Olé Mexican Foods has expanded with two manufacturing facilities in the Dallas area and are supporting Hispanic communities by having all Olé products fortified with folic acid by Q1 2025. Olé also supplies Walmart with Great Value brand tortillas, which are all currently fortified with folic acid. This provides a vital prenatal supplement for Hispanic women, a population more likely to have a folic acid deficiency.
Beef
We opened our first beef manufacturing facility in Georgia in 2021, creating 200 jobs. In 2025, we will take this even further, opening a second facility in Kansas to generate another 600 jobs for the local community.
Lettuce
Little Leaf Farms in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania uses recycled rainwater in their hands-free greenhouses, resulting in up to 90% less water usage than field grown greens, and goes from harvest to your local store in as little as 24 hours.
Tomatoes
Florida-based Lipman Family Farms has been ‘good from the ground up’ for over 75 years providing fresh tomatoes and vegetables. Their culture prioritizes best practices for responsible sourcing, sustainable farming practices and certified social accountability – values reflected in their long-standing employee relationships.
Rice
Since 2021, Walmart has collaborated with Indigo Ag to sustainably source our Great Value brand rice from our home state of Arkansas. Since expanding in 2022, this initiative is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2,000 metric tons, and 1.5 billion gallons reduction of water usage.
Cheese
Get the ooey-gooey goodness of the real thing with bettergoods plant-based cheese. This dairy-free alternative provides a high-quality option sourced from suppliers right here in the U.S.
Salsa
Mrs. Renfro’s salsa hails from Texas and is a third generation, 84-year-old family business. They’ve been connected with Walmart since the early 2000s, growing their business through additional jobs and increased automation, and now provide a line of premium salsas for our chef-inspired private brand, bettergoods.
Hot sauce
Lola’s Fine Hot Sauce, an emerging business based in Iowa, grew significantly after attending Walmart’s annual Open Call event in 2021. This year at Open Call, they got a deal with Walmart Canada and will expand with items in stores across Canada starting in 2025.
