To support local business and help strengthen the economy in India, Walmart and Flipkart have launched several initiatives:
- In 2024, Walmart hosted the first India Growth Summit towards its goal to triple exports of Made-in-India goods to $10 billion annually by 2027.
- In 2022, Walmart invited Indian sellers to join the U.S. & Canada Marketplace, a curated seller community of over 120 million shoppers each month.
- In December 2020, Walmart made a $10 billion commitment to source India-made goods each year by 2027
- Launched in 2019, Walmart Vriddhi is a comprehensive training program that has upskilled 50,000 MSMEs across India, helping them modernize, scale and meet their domestic and international ambitions.
- Flipkart Samarth was launched July 2019, to empower Indian artisans, weavers and craftsman and provide a marketplace to sell their goods.
We have committed to help strengthening smallholder farmer communities:
- In March 2023, Walmart Foundation Expands Efforts to Support Smallholder Farmers in India, Further Empowering Women. The new grant commitment aims to reach 1 million farmers by 2028, with at least 50% women.
- In September 2020, the Walmart Foundation announced two new grants as part of their commitment, bringing the total to $15 million contributed and more than 140,000 farmers, including 80,000 women, to benefit.
- In 2018, the Walmart Foundation made a commitment of $25 million over five years to support the sustainable livelihoods for farmers in India and separately, Walmart India will grow its direct sourcing from farmers to 25 percent of produce sold in its Cash & Carry stores over the same period.
