Many associates, customers and members in the communities we serve experienced the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we are acting quickly to help. Now and before the storm made landfall, our teams have been working closely with local leaders and organizations to assess needs, support associates and deliver donations of supplies to organizations supporting relief efforts.
Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation committed $16 million to support relief efforts across communities impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. This support included donations of 178 truckloads of food, water and essential items and nearly $10 million in grants to relief organizations.
For several weeks after the hurricanes made landfall, Walmart and Sam’s Club parking lots across in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia became places of hope for communities where people could access charging stations, laundry, showers and hot meals. Operation BBQ Relief and Walmart Private Fleet drivers served a total of more than 544,000 meals from Walmart parking lots.
Our customers and members are some of the most generous people we know. As part of our commitment, Walmart launched a nationwide customer campaign to magnify their impact by matching their donations to the American Red Cross 1:1, up to $2.5 million, when they donate to support hurricane relief at registers in stores and clubs and on Walmart.com. The generosity from customers and members poured in quickly, and the $2.5 million match was met as of Oct. 3. Customers and members generously donated more than $14.5 million for the American Red Cross, in addition to the company’s $16 million commitment.
Throughout the recovery, we will continue looking for ways to support our associates, customers, members and their families.
