BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 21, 2024 — Walmart de México y Centroamérica, also known as Walmex, opened a landmark 2,500th Bodega Aurrera store in Mexicali, Mexico. Bodega Aurrera, one of several store formats operated by Walmex, serves communities throughout Mexico by offering a range of products to families at affordable prices, from groceries and household items to electronics, appliances and toys. This newest location boasts a sales floor of almost 2,000 sq. m. (roughly 21,000 sq. ft.) and will create over 50 new jobs.
Bodega Aurrera began in 1958 with a single store in Mexico City. In the decades since, it has become a trusted family favorite across the country, serving millions of customers in its 66 years and employing over 91,000 associates today.
Tomas Durandeau, senior vice president of Bodega Aurrera, praised Bodega Aurrera associates and reinforced the company’s commitment to supporting economic growth in Mexico. "This milestone reiterates our closeness to our customers in all the communities we serve,” Durandeau said, “helping families save money and live better."
In addition to its 2,500 brick-and-mortar locations, Bodega Aurrera offers a true omnichannel experience. From services familiar to U.S. customers like self-checkout, in-store pickup and home delivery, to Walmex’s interconnected financial services network and discount medical, pharmacy and telephone services, Bodega Aurrera is helping families meet their needs in new and innovative ways, writing the next chapter in the company’s rich history.
