What is Walmart doing to promote a diverse workplace?

Walmart Spark

We believe we’re stronger as a company and a country when all people are included, heard, and empowered. We expect all associates to genuinely embrace diversity and inclusion, so that we don’t just accept our differences but celebrate them, all the time, and within every team.

To build on our work in this space and aggressively drive change inside and outside our company, in June 2020, we announced that we would develop strategies and invest resources to increase fairness, equity and justice. Specifically, we’re going to focus the power of Walmart on our nation’s financial, healthcare, education and criminal justice systems. In addition to internal teams diving into work in these four areas, we also support nine Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) to create a sense of community for associates who are committed to creating an inclusive culture.

To address systematic racism in society head-on and accelerate change, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have also committed $100 million over five years to create a new center for racial equity.

In our 2019 Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Report, we reported that our U.S. workforce, which is made up of more than 1.4 million associates, consists of 21 percent Black or African American associates, 15 percent Hispanic or Latino American associates, 5 percent Asian American or Pacific Islander associates, and 1 percent American Indian or Alaskan Native. 55 percent of all associates are women, which includes 44 percent of our managers and 33 percent of our officers.

As we continue to make progress, we encourage an ongoing and open dialogue – one between our associates, customers, suppliers and communities around the world – so that we can make a Walmart-sized difference in racial equity.
