Special Initiative: Making 20 Commodities More Sustainable by 2025
- 2025 marks the culmination of Walmart’s 20x25 Initiative, a ten-year effort to source 20 key commodities more sustainably by 2025. We have focused on fostering more sustainable commodity production, conserving high-value landscapes and seascapes, and supporting the well-being of the people who farm, fish, and otherwise produce commodities across global value chains.
- Across these 20 commodities, Walmart applied the strategies described above, including setting sourcing standards, engaging suppliers to implement and report on more sustainable practices, collaborating through industry initiatives, and investing in place-based projects and broader enabling solutions.
- Following the initiative’s conclusion, we continue to integrate these strategies and learnings into our approach to merchandising for people and planet and will continue to report on related efforts and progress through annual shared value reporting.
