At the 2011 Walmart Shareholders Meeting, Central America Walmart associates discuss the Tierra Fértil (translation: Fertile Soil) program, which continues to support farmers in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador in diversifying their crops to meet real market needs.

Video Translation:
Fertile Soil is a program that is functioning to help small farmers through technical assistance and consultancy so that they can have better crops in a more standardized way. Therefore, elevate the quality of their products and that way we may commercialize them in our stores. As of right now, we have 2,200 farmers incorporated in this program and through this program we are helping more than 16,000 Central American families.

I feel very happy. I feel it's a company that promotes many initiatives to help the community, not only in sustainability, but in health issues and especially with a deeper social consciousness and greater impact, and that makes me very proud to be a part of this company.
