In-store pickup and Walmart services share a space at the front of a Walmart supercenter

ICYMI: A Walmart nametag becomes a dog tag, we work with The Ellen Show to help kids in L.A., and it’s time to get going on those gift lists. (Seriously, the holidays are coming quick.)

A Special Associate
If you’re in our Bolivar, Missouri, store, you might notice a different kind of associate on the sales floor. Her name is Henley and she is Jay Ho-gland’s service animal. Jay is an army veteran and Walmart associate who experiences post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, but Henley helps make his days a little easier. If Jay is on the sales floor stocking shelves, Henley is right next to him, wearing her Walmart vest and name badge. She’s our hardest working associate on four legs!

Bonus Day to Give Back
Last week, I shared some examples of people giving back in the spirit of Christmas, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show is known for their “12 Days of Giving” at the holidays. So, we were thrilled to be able to partner with her this week for a bonus day of giveaways for a great cause. Earlier this year, The Show highlighted the Center for Advanced Learning in Los Angeles and they received a special donation while they were on the show. On Monday, they brought CAL back for another surprise: We donated a toy to every student, plus a new laptop to every teacher and student at the school. Huge thanks to The Ellen DeGeneres Show for letting us be a part of this special moment!

Great Reads for the Holidays
As we close in on the end of the year, lots of people are posting their “Best of 2016” lists, and our own CEO, Doug McMillon, got in on the action. Last week, he shared his top six inspiring reads from this year. His book picks ranged from General Stanley McChrystal’s “Team of Teams” to Sam Walton’s biography “Made in America.”

Run, Rudolph!
We are nine days away from Christmas, which means there are eight shopping days left. I just realized this morning, that I am woefully behind on my gift shopping, but I know I’m not the only one. If you’re in this boat, too, don’t fret! We’ve got a couple of things to help you out in a pinch:

  • If you order an item available for Walmart Pickup online by 6 p.m. local time on Dec. 23, it will be available to pick up the item in stores on Dec. 24 by 6 p.m.
  • Dec. 22 at noon local time is the last day to place an order on Walmart.com for rush delivery.
  • If you’re looking for last-minute gifts, head over to Walmart.com/lastminutegifts.
  • And if you’re looking for last-minute gifts on a budget, POPSUGAR has you covered.

Helping Kids, $1 at a Time
Since 1987, Walmart associates and customers have raised nearly $1 billion for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including $36.9 million this year alone. What’s incredible about that is the majority of these funds are raised through $1 donations at our registers. But our stores really get into the cause, coming up with incredibly creative fundraising ideas that lead to big bucks for their local hospitals. Our top four locations this year include Indianapolis; Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago; and Denver.
