When paying with a credit card, the safety of your information is priceless. So, what if you could enjoy even tighter security – and periodically even get money back?
The new Sam’s Club MasterCard offers members just that. Not only is it the first card from a major retailer that employs chip-enabled technology – it also provides cash back benefits that make using the card an even greater overall value.
Our members pay to shop with us, so we’re constantly working on ways to expand the value of membership. Innovation and technology are huge drivers of that. Walmart has been working for eight years to upgrade to chip-enabled equipment across all our locations, and Sam’s Club is proud to lead the way in launching a card that goes along with it.
It works like this: In addition to a magnetic strip, each card has an embedded microchip that stores the information required to authenticate, authorize and process transactions. Using the card at a chip-enabled device provides an extra layer of security because the chip does not contain the credit card number – instead, it uses a dynamic code. Overall, the embedded chip also makes the card more difficult to counterfeit.
From talking to our members, we know that their top concerns are saving time and money. With credit cards, security also tops the list. This new MasterCard provides a solution for all of these, and because of that, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
When it comes to saving money, one topic our members constantly mention is gas. With fuel prices fluctuating daily around the country, anything helps. That’s one reason the top tier of our cash back program through the card applies to fuel – allowing our members to earn up to 5% cash back on those purchases. They can also earn 3% cash back on dining and travel, and 1% on all other transactions, up to $5,000 annually.
As the leader of our services programs, enhancing the Sam’s Club membership with these extra benefits is my sole focus every day. With the announcement of greater security – and savings – through this new MasterCard, as well as initiatives like the travel booking portal we launched last week, our members are seeing the results.
