Offering Support to Nepal Earthquake Victims

My heart is heavy about the earthquake that struck Nepal recently. At the same time, I couldn’t be more thankful to work for a company that’s ready to help.

A support aid wearing a red Nepal Red Cross Society vest sits beside a woman on a brick road in front of a crowd of men and rubble.

The Walmart Foundation is donating $250,000 to support relief efforts in Nepal – $100,000 to International Medical Corps and $150,000 for the American Red Cross. These funds will provide immediate medical needs, food and shelter for the people affected by the earthquake, and will be delivered by two well-respected organizations that have a long history in that country.

One of the best things about Walmart and the Walmart Foundation is how we use our strengths to help others. Part of that commitment includes being a global leader in disaster relief and resiliency, responding quickly and holistically to natural disasters where and when they happen. Over the last 10 years, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have provided more than $43 million in financial support to communities impacted by disasters around the world.

Since I began helping direct disaster response efforts for Walmart eight years ago, I have had the opportunity to work with a countless number of wonderful associates as we’ve supported communities impacted by disaster. I’m always amazed at their passion and dedication to assist those in need. That passion to help others is actually why I joined the company.

If you are interested in donating money to support Nepal, you can do so directly via Walmart.com and SamsClub.com. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy.
