- Southwest Oklahoma City gets much-needed convenience grocery option
- Up to 95 new jobs created by new Walmart Neighborhood Market
Oklahoma City (March 30, 2015) ̶ Walmart announced today the company is continuing its growth of small format stores with a new Neighborhood Market at 13505 S. Santa Fe Avenue (intersection of 134th Street and S Sante Fe Avenue). Construction is expected to begin in summer 2015 and we look forward to a grand opening by early 2016.
The 40,000 square foot Walmart Neighborhood Market will include fresh produce, a full grocery department with bakery and deli offerings, health and beauty items, baby and pet supplies, select household merchandise and a drive-through pharmacy with $4 generic prescriptions.
“Our customers tell us they like how convenient our Neighborhood Market stores are for those quick trips – it helps them in their busy lives,” said Nick Berkeley, Walmart Vice President and Regional General Manager of Small Formats. “We are excited to bring another option to south Oklahoma City and offer the convenience of quality fresh food, pharmacy and the items families need at great low prices.”
Customers can take advantage of the free Walmart Pickup service at this location and have access to the millions of products available at Walmart.com. Customers can simply go to Walmart.com, make their selections from the website and then have those items delivered, free of charge, to this Neighborhood Market.
Walmart will hire up to 95 associates to work at the new Neighborhood Market and will begin hiring later this year. The company provides benefits to eligible full-and part-time associates. Walmart also offers eligible associates matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance.
The store will be built with the latest sustainability features, including LED lighting in signs and refrigerator cases, energy efficient HVAC units and water conserving fixtures.
Walmart operates 118 stores, 11 Sam’s Clubs and two distribution centers in Oklahoma employing approximately 31,000 associates. The average hourly full-time wage for associates in Oklahoma is $11.72. Last calendar year, Walmart collected $548.1 million in taxes and fees on behalf of the state of Oklahoma and paid an additional $55 million. Additionally, Walmart spent $677.7 million for merchandise and services supporting 18,438 supplier jobs in Oklahoma last calendar year. Walmart has been a proud community partner in the state and donated $31.6 million to nonprofits in 2013.
