MONROE, Wash., Dec. 2, 2014 – A new Walmart is opening Wednesday, December 3, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store is conveniently located at 19191 N. Kelsey St. and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The store will provide Monroe residents with low prices on a broad assortment of groceries and merchandise, along with a fuel station and full service pharmacy. Walmart is making holiday shopping more convenient than ever as local residents can shop for more than a million additional items online on Walmart.com and pick them up at the new Washington Walmart store for free, often as quickly as the same day.
“Monroe and the Sky Valley community are delighted to embrace diversity in our shopping experience,” said Una Wirkebau-Hartt, executive director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. “We welcome the opening of Walmart and are thrilled that 200 more locals have jobs which will increase economic vitality in our area. The store has already begun helping our nonprofits with a donation of both time and money for the Monroe Arts Council and the much needed upgrades of Wagner Auditorium. The Chamber looks forward to their continuing partnerships.”
The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Don Albaugh began his Walmart career in 1995 as an hourly garden center associate.
“We are excited to open our doors just in time for the holidays,” said Albaugh. “We hope to be able to offer a pleasant shopping experience to the Monroe community, both for their seasonal and everyday needs.”
Fresh, Affordable Produce, Meat and Groceries
Monroe customers will find holiday meal and entertaining essentials, fresh produce and a full line of groceries from leading brand names, including organic selections. By working with growers, Walmart is able to provide farm-grown quality produce at added convenience and low prices.
Convenient Local Pharmacy and
In addition to groceries, the store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including electronics, furniture, home decor, automotive, sporting goods, home improvement and more.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members are ready to assist customers with product and prescription questions. Monroe residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.
Smart Shopping with Savings Catcher
Savings Catcher, the retailer’s new receipt comparison tool, looks at other top retailers’ local ads and gives customers an eGift card for the difference if a competitor’s offering is lower than the price they paid at Walmart. The tool gives customers confidence in their purchases and helps eliminate the need to shop at multiple stores to find great prices. The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $7,500 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Recipients of grants include Gold Bar Elementary PTA, Maltby Food Bank, Monroe Public Schools Foundation, Monroe-Sky Valley YMCA, Sky Valley Food Bank and the Monroe Arts Council.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Washington donated approximately 10.4 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 8.6 million meals.
