SNEAD, Ala., Oct. 29, 2014 – A new Walmart Neighborhood Market store will open Wednesday, Nov. 5, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The Snead Walmart Neighborhood Market brings the community everyday low prices in a smaller format store. The new store is conveniently located at 87395 U.S. Highway 278 and is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The new store is designed to make shopping quick and easy for area customers who want to save money and find what they need close to home, including a gas station. Additionally, the new Snead store offers Walmart's free Site to Store program, enabling customers to choose from nearly a million additional online items that can be ordered on Walmart.com and picked up at the store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

The new Snead store is part of Walmart’s plan to open an additional 270 to 300 small-format locations this year. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

“Our store is nearly ready to open its doors,” said store manager Raven Sartain. “We are so excited to introduce this new Walmart format to Snead.”

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The approximately 11,000-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market store features a pharmacy and offers groceries and general merchandise, including an assortment of fresh produce, dairy and meats, dry goods, consumables, health and beauty aids, over-the-counter medicines and more.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. Snead residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.

In addition, customers can shop a broader assortment of items online at Walmart.com and then pay for these purchases with cash in all of Walmart U.S. stores and Walmart Neighborhood Markets, including the new Snead store.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 30 full- and part-time associates. Sartain began her Walmart career in 2010 as an hourly cashier.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of over $1,500 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Recipients of grants include Susan Moore High School, the Snead Fire Department and the Snead Police Department.

“We are so excited to have Walmart move into our community,” said Mike Stansberry, principal of Susan Moore High School. “Walmart has always been known as a generous giver to education and local schools.”

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Alabama donated approximately 13.4 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 11.1 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $25.8 million in fiscal year 2014 in Alabama alone.
