Walmart will provide $25,000 in grants to three local disaster relief organizations in regions of Washington State affected by recent wildfires
CHELAN, Wash. (August 12, 2014) – In response to the recent wildfires that have devastated parts of northern and central Washington, the Walmart Foundation has pledged $25,000 in grants to three local disaster relief organizations.
“Our deepest condolences go out to those affected by the wildfires in Washington,” said Madeleine Havener, vice president and regional general manager for Walmart. “At Walmart, we value each and every community we are a part of and we hope that these grants will help lessen the difficulties these communities are facing in the wake of the fires.”
“Our hearts go out to those affected by the devastating wildfires in Washington,” said Madeleine Havener, vice president and regional general manager for Walmart. “At Walmart we care about each and every community we’re a part of and, as communities work to repair the damage, we’re proud to play a role in their recovery through $25,000 in contributions to local organizations providing assistance to those hardest hit by the wildfires.”
This season’s wildfires are some of the most devastating the state has seen – destroying nearly 300 homes, burning at least a quarter-million acres, and costing nearly $50 million in fire suppression efforts.
Thanks to Walmart, the Okanogan County Community Action Council will receive a $10,000 grant to go toward providing assistance for one of the communities hardest hit by the fires. Chelan Valley Hope, a partnership of organizations that provides charitable and educational services to the Chelan Valley community, and the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, a philanthropic organization benefiting three of the most devastated counties in Washington, will each receive $7,500 from the Walmart Foundation.
Walmart’s leadership in providing disaster relief has long been recognized as one of its top philanthropic efforts and Walmart intends to continue those efforts throughout the state of Washington to help local communities get back on their feet.
