PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 6, 2014 – Two new Walmart stores are opening Wednesday, Aug. 13, following brief ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 7:30 a.m. The new Tigard store is conveniently located at 7600 SW. Dartmouth St. and the Sherwood store is located at 21320 SW. Langer Farms Parkway. Both locations are open from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week. The stores will provide residents with low prices on a broad assortment of merchandise and offer Walmart's free Site to Store program, enabling customers to choose from nearly a million additional online items that can be ordered on Walmart.com and picked up at either store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

The new stores employ approximately 600 full- and part-time associates. Tigard store manager Dion Hess began his Walmart career in 2002 as a co-manager.

“Walmart is excited to bring these two stores to the area,” said Hess. “We have everything you need for easy shopping and back-to-school time.”

Sherwood store manager Scot Gavic started with Walmart in 1994 as a co-manager in Salem, Oregon.

“The new stores not only mean convenient shopping options, but approximately 600 new jobs to our communities,” said Gavic.

Affordable Groceries to Meet All Your Needs
The new stores offer fresh produce and a full line of groceries from all the leading brand names, including organic and natural selections. There is also a wide variety of meat for your end of summer grilling needs and bakery selections, including breads and desserts. Both stores also offer a beer and wine selection located in the grocery section

In addition to groceries, the stores feature quality, value-priced general merchandise, including electronics and back-to-school supplies. Customers can also shop a broader assortment of items online at Walmart.com and then pay for these purchases with cash in all of Walmart U.S. stores and Walmart Neighborhood Markets, including the new stores.

The pharmacies offer a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. Tigard and Sherwood residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.

Community Giving

The grand-opening celebrations include presentations of over $11,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Groups who will be recognized include:
  • Helping Hands Food Pantry
  • Sherwood Police Department
  • Sherwood High School Band
  • St. Francis Catholic Church’s food pantry
  • Marjorie Stewart Community/ Senior Center
  • Good Neighbor Center
  • Oregon Human Development Corp
  • Buffalo Soldiers - Pacific Northwest Chapter
  • St. Vincent De Paul Society
  • Tigard Police Department

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Oregon donated approximately 4.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of four million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $9.6 million in fiscal year 2014 in Oregon alone.
