New Walmart provides approximately 200 jobs, plus savings on wide selection of merchandise

PAW PAW, Mich., July 16, 2014 – A new Walmart opened on Wednesday, July 16, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 1013 S. Kalamazoo St. is conveniently located at M-40 Exit 60 and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Paw Paw residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs.
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, including a drive-thru. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand opening celebration also included presentations of $10,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients included the Paw Paw Fire Department, Paw Paw Police Department, Eleanor’s Pantry, 86Meth.org, Wings of God, The Drop Youth Service and Senior Services of Van Buren County.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Michigan donated approximately 12.7 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 10.6 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $25.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Michigan alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Adella Wells began her Walmart career in 2000 as an hourly associate.
“It’s exciting to finally open the doors to the new store and welcome in our new neighbors,” said Wells. “The associates and I also hope to see them this Saturday for more fun at our Big Family Welcome event.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Paw Paw community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, July 19. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet store manager Adella Wells and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
