Mankato, Minn. June 24, 2014 – Today, Walmart and the City of Mankato broke ground on a new Walmart Distribution Center slated to open spring 2015. This facility – the first Walmart Distribution Center in the state of Minnesota – will provide perishable foods to Walmart stores throughout the Midwest and Plains including Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
“We’re excited to celebrate this milestone in the development of the new Walmart Distribution Center with the city of Mankato,” said Joel Marpe, Walmart divisional VP of logistics. “We look forward to better serving our customers through the new distribution center by reducing the distance from farm to shelf, ensuring our stores can provide shoppers with fresher, healthier options.”
The Distribution Center will employ approximately 300 associates and the majority of positions will be full-time with some part-time positions available. In addition to competitive pay, eligible full- and part-time associates receive a comprehensive package of benefits, including affordable health and dental insurance, company funded 401(k), and facility performance based bonuses.
"We are thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking of Walmart’s Mankato Distribution Center,” said Congressman Tim Walz. "This development will not only strengthen the local economy but the positive impact of job growth, capital investment, and economic development will be felt throughout the region."
The new Walmart Distribution Center is located at the intersection of North Victory Dr. and Blue Earth County Rd. 12. As one of the largest private distribution networks in the world, the new 420,000 square-feet Walmart Distribution Center will store and distribute perishable food to Walmart stores in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
“We’re pleased to be the home of the new Walmart Distribution Center in Minnesota that will open pathways for employment opportunities and growth to our retail corridor,” said Mayor Eric Anderson. “The City of Mankato is committed to promoting economic advancement in Minnesota and with the addition of the new Distribution Center, we will not only be making an impact on our city but across the entire greater Mankato region and Upper Midwest.”
Walmart is committed to providing fresh
and affordable groceries to its customers to ensure they can live better. The
Distribution Center is the first in Minnesota, complementing Walmart’s real
estate presence of 82 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores, employing more than 20,900
associates across the state.
