GALT, Calif., June 4, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, June 11, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The new store at 10470 Twin Cities Road is conveniently located and is open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It will provide Galt residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“We’re excited to have Walmart open in Galt to provide residents with another convenient option to shop." said Galt Mayor Marylou Powers. “The opening of this store brings with it hundreds of new jobs as well as another way to keep tax dollars local."
Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel,
electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a
full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to
local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening
celebration also includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to
local community groups. Grant recipients include the Galt Bird Festival, Galt
Police Department, Project Love, Galt Strawberry Festival, Galt High School
Band, Boy Scouts of America, History Makers Foundation and L’Chayim of Galt.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California donated approximately 23.1 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 19.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $47.1 million in fiscal year 2014 in California alone. New
Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store
manager David Wilhelm began his Walmart career in 1994 as an overnight
maintenance associate.
“We are excited to open our doors and welcome the Galt community to this new store,” said Wilhelm. “My team has worked hard to give customers a great shopping experience.”
A Big
Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Galt community and is ready to
celebrate with residents on Saturday, June 14. A Big Family Welcome will give
customers a chance to meet Wilhelm and enjoy fun family activities such as face
painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join
