- Store open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif., May 28, 2014 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday, June 4, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-fourth the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 8844 Limonite Ave. and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“We are delighted that Walmart is opening a Neighborhood Market to provide our residents with fresh and affordable groceries,” said Jurupa Valley Mayor Frank Johnston. “Our City will greatly benefit from the increased business activity at this shopping center, along with the jobs and tax revenue the store will provide. I know the new store will be a productive and important part of our City.”
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart
Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery
department, including organic and natural selections. The store features
prepared food options, fresh baked breads, full-service deli and a bakery.
The Jurupa Valley store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites. In FYE 2013, Walmart spent more than $1.1 billion dollars with local suppliers in the region, helping support more than 13,500 jobs. Walmart works with local produce suppliers, such as Corona College Heights of Riverside and Index Fresh, based in Temecula, to supply stores throughout California with quality citrus and avocados.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. The stores will also offer Walmart’s $4 Prescription Program, through which customers can choose from hundreds of generic drugs and over-the-counter medications for $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply. Started in 2006, the program has saved U.S. customers more than $4.8 billion on medications. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
"The new Walmart Neighborhood Market store is a welcome addition to our community,” said Bobby Hernandez, President of the Jurupa Valley Chamber of Commerce. “Residents and businesses alike need affordable shopping choices, and the addition of this store will help build a more vibrant and thriving local and regional economy.”
Community Giving
Walmart supports local charitable
causes that are important to the communities it serves. In FYE
2013, Walmart contributed more than $3.5 million to charitable and civic organizations that serve residents of the Inland Empire. The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Second Harvest Food Bank Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and Riverside March of Dimes.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California donated approximately 23.1 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 19.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $47.1
million in fiscal year 2014 in California alone. For more information on Walmart’s fight against hunger, visit http://foundation.walmart.com/our-focus/hunger.
New Store, New Jobs
The new
store employs about 65 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart
Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart
Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Craig Coggiola began his Walmart career in 1998 as an hourly pharmacy clerk at the Pomona Walmart.
“I am excited to bring a convenient shopping option with Walmart’s low prices to Jurupa Valley,” said Coggiola. “All of the associates have worked hard to prepare our Walmart Neighborhood Market for the grand opening and now we look forward to meeting shoppers.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is
happy to be part of the Jurupa Valley community and is ready to celebrate with
residents on Saturday, June 7. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a
chance to meet Coggiola and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting,
cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the
