CLAY, N.Y., May 28, 2014 – A newly relocated Walmart will open Wednesday, June 4, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:15 a.m.. The new store at 8770 Dell Center Drive is conveniently located and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Clay residents with shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store is relocating from its previous location at 3949 Route 31 in Liverpool. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“We are pleased to see the expansion of one of our newest members, Walmart, in the Town of Clay,” said Tom Conley, president of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. “This expansion will bring an increase of job opportunities and provide greater sale tax revenue to the area. Other area merchants will also benefit from the increase in shoppers in the area.”
Shopping Convenience
The store
features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel,
electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a
full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to
local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also
includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to local community
groups. Grant recipients include Golisano Childrens Hospital in Syracuse,
Health and Science Center Upstate Medical Center, Onondaga County Sheriffs
Office, Rescue Mission, Paiges Butterfly Run and Maureen’s Hope Foundation.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in New York donated approximately 10.7 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 8.9 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $22.4 million in fiscal year 2014 in New York alone. New Store, New Jobs
The newly
relocated store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates,
including approximately 85 additional jobs created by the relocation. Store
manager Justin Saville began his Walmart career in 1997 as an hourly associate.
“We are excited to expand our grocery offerings and bring additional jobs to Clay,” said Saville. “We invite everyone to stop by and see the new expanded store, enjoy our grand-opening festivities and take advantage of vendor promotions and giveaways.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is
happy to be part of the Clay community and is ready to celebrate with residents
on Saturday, June 7. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet
Saville and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake
decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from
noon to 3 p.m.
