COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 23, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Friday, May 30, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 7730 Sawmill Road is conveniently located at Sawmill and Summer Roads and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Columbus residents with added shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

"I am really excited at the potential for a strong relationship between Walmart and Powell,” said Jaymie Kottenstette, Executive Director of Historic Downtown Powell. “Walmart’s addition to our community will impact not only economically, but add a much needed improvement to the landscape. I am thrilled that the neighborhood surrounding the new store will be recipients of these improvements."

“As Principal of Dublin Scioto High School, I am in favor of companies that work collaboratively with our schools and communities,” Dr. Donis E. Toler Jr. “We are very blessed to have many supporting companies that work closely with Scioto. I look forward to having Walmart as an additional community neighbor, one that supports our school, community and students.”

Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart local community groups. Grant recipients include Powell Chamber of Commerce, Historic Downtown Powell, Liberty Township Fire Department, Davis Middle School, Olde Sawmill Elementary, Dublin Scioto High School, VFW Post 239 and the Boy Scouts.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Ohio donated approximately 16.5 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 13.8 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $33.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Ohio alone. “This new Walmart has brought good jobs to the area and we’re proud to continue serving the Columbus community every day,” said Davis. “We’re anxious to meet our new neighbors and invite them to join us on Saturday for the Big Family Welcome event.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Columbus community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 31. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet store manager James Davis and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
