TAMPA, Fla., May 14, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, May 21, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 15302 N. Nebraska Ave. is conveniently located and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Tampa residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"The University Area again welcomes a new Walmart store to our community," said Hillsborough County Commissioner Victor Crist. “The new store builds upon the partnership Walmart has enjoyed with this community for more than 20 years. I am excited about the 300 new jobs created by this store, the availability of a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections as well as local favorites, as well as the addition of pharmacy services. I am also grateful for Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the community, as demonstrated by the grants they will be presenting to local community groups including the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Metropolitan Ministries, Mort Elementary School and the University Area Community Development Corporation.”
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, including a drive-thru. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $5,500 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Metropolitan Ministries, Inc., Mort Elementary School and University Area Community Development Corporation.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Florida donated approximately 26.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 22.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $53.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Florida alone. A Big Family Welcome
