New Walmart provides approximately 300 jobs, plus savings on wide selection of merchandise

  • New store located at 1500 Economy Way
  • Economy Walmart creates approximately 300 new jobs
  • Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

ECONOMY, Pa., May 14, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, May 21, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 1500 Economy Way is conveniently located and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Economy residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

“The opening of the new Walmart is very exciting for Economy Borough and our neighbors. Not only has Walmart already brought new jobs, but it will spark future interest in additional investment in Economy Borough's business districts,” said Economy Mayor David Polling.

“I'm thrilled to welcome Walmart which I know will be a highly valued community partner going forward.”

Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Beaver County Food Bank, Beaver Humane Society, Economy Fire Department, Economy Police Department and Baden American Legion.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Pennsylvania donated approximately 8.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 7.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $19.7 million in fiscal year 2013 in Pennsylvania alone.  For more information on Walmart’s fight against hunger, visit http://foundation.walmart.com/our-focus/hunger.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Kory Campbell began his Walmart career in 1998 as an hourly cashier in Selinsgrove.

“We are excited to open this new store and bring a convenient shopping option along with low prices to Economy,” said Campbell. “Community residents are invited to join us for the grand-opening celebration on May 21.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Economy community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 24. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Campbell and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
