CICERO, Ill., May 14, 2014 – Officials from Walmart and representatives of the Town of Cicero will join State Legislators and local community leaders in officially launching the new Walmart at 3320 S. Cicero Ave. near 33rd Street on Tuesday, May 20 in a Pre-Grand Opening Ceremony.
The new store will officially open to the public on Wednesday, May 21 with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 7:30 am.
The new store will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It will provide Cicero residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services including a drive-thru.
“We are pleased to now have a Walmart in the Town of Cicero,” said Cicero Town President Larry Dominick. “We continue to build our business community and the addition of more than 400 jobs, many of which went to our Cicero residents, is a boost to our economy and to our Town.”
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to expanded Hispanic/Latino selections.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $7,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Cicero Police Department, Cicero Fire Department, Clyde Park District and Friends of Morton Foundation.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Illinois donated approximately 11.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 9.9 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $24.9 million in fiscal year 2013 in Illinois alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 420 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Lisa Perez began her Walmart career in 1996 as an hourly associate.
“It’s exciting to see the store open and serving the Cicero community, which includes providing new jobs to the area,” said Perez. “We look forward to meeting our new neighbors on grand opening day and this Saturday at the Big Family Welcome event here at the Walmart.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Cicero community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 24. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Perez and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
