- New Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 2201 Grand Blvd.
- Approximately 80 jobs created by Vancouver Walmart Neighborhood Market
- Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
VANCOUVER, Wash., April 24, 2014 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market Thursday, May 1 at 8 a.m., following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 2201 Grand Blvd. and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“We welcome the new Walmart Neighborhood Market to central Vancouver,” said Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt. “This brings new business vitality to the Fourth Plain area. The City is excited that this new store will bring 80 jobs to the community and that residents will have more shopping options 24/7.”
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh baked breads, deli and a bakery.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of grants from Walmart to local community groups including Share who will be attending the event to accept the check for their $25,000 grant.
“We are extremely grateful to the Walmart Foundation for their recognition and support of Share’s vital services to our community,” said Diane McWithey, Executive Director of Share. “The $25,000 grant will be used to support our Backpack Program, which provides food on the weekends to children at risk of hunger – more than 68,400 bags each school year. It is through the tremendous support of businesses, like Walmart, that allows us to fulfill our mission each and every day.”
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Washington donated approximately 8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 6.6 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $15.7 million in fiscal year 2013 in Washington alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 80 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Jeremy Huckleberry began his Walmart career in 2004 as an hourly tire and lube express support manager in Vancouver.
“I’ve had the opportunity to build a career with Walmart,” said Huckleberry. “I look forward to watching the associates at this new Walmart Neighborhood Market have the same opportunities and am excited to bring affordable, fresh groceries to the community.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Vancouver community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 3. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Huckleberry and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
