DENVER, CO – A new Walmart opened Wednesday, April 9, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 a.m. The new store at 2770 W. Evans Ave. is conveniently located at the intersection of Evans Avenue and Federal Boulevard and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Denver residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
“From a broken-down parking lot and a huge empty facility, we welcome the revitalization of this commercial space and the creation of new jobs and new grocery options in a neighborhood that needs both,” said Denver Councilman, Chris Nevitt.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys and sporting goods. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also included presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Abraham Lincoln High School, Firefly Autism, Denver Inner City Parish, Servicos de La Raza and Summit Academy.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Colorado donated approximately 6.6 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 5.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $14.3 million in fiscal year 2013 in Colorado alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Josh Plant began his Walmart career in 1995 as an hourly stocker.
“The new store provides a new shopping option at the intersection of Evans Avenue and Federal Boulevard,” said Plant. “Additionally, the new Walmart Supercenter has provided jobs to approximately 200 individuals.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Denver community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, April 12. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Plant and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
