- New Walmart Neighborhood Market located at Neuse Boulevard and Glenburnie Road
- Up to 95 jobs created by New Bern Walmart Neighborhood Market
- Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
NEW BERN, N.C., April 2, 2014 – Walmart will open the first
Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday, April 9, after a brief ribbon-cutting
ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-fifth the size of a Walmart
Supercenter, is located at 2915 Neuse Blvd. and is open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option
for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“We appreciate Walmart’s commitment to New Bern, and the many jobs it provides our citizens and the level of professional goods and services it provides our region,” said New Bern Mayor Dana Outlaw.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, self-serve deli and bakery and a smoked meats section. The New Bern store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including a smoked meats section.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, including a drive-thru. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,500 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include The Salvation Army, Coastal Federation, Craven Community College, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Coastal Women's Shelter.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in North Carolina donated approximately 21 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 17.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $39.8 million in fiscal year 2013 in North Carolina alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Angela Ross began her Walmart career in 1999 as an assistant manager in Greenville, N.C.
“We’re excited to have the new store open and serving the New Bern community, including the new jobs it brings,” said Ross. “We look forward to meeting our new neighbors and invite them to join us at the grand-opening ceremony.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the New Bern community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, April 12. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Ross and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
