GRAND FORKS, N.D., March 28, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, April 2, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 5755 Gateway Drive is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Grand Forks residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs.

"We're excited for the grand opening of the new Walmart Supercenter as it's a beneficial addition to our growing retail offerings in Grand Forks,” said Mayor Michael Brown. ”This Walmart Supercenter will create new quality jobs and significantly spur further investment in the north end of town along the Highway 2 corridor."

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in North Dakota donated approximately 1.3 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 1.1 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $3 million in fiscal year 2013 in North Dakota alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Jeremy Aldrich began his Walmart career in 2003 as a temporary hourly associate in Lawn and Garden.

We’re excited to open the doors and start serving the Grand Forks community,” said Aldrich. “We also welcome our new neighbors to join us for our Big Family Welcome event this Saturday.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Grand Forks community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, April 5. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Aldrich and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
