THOUSAND
OAKS, Calif., March 26, 2014
– Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday,
April 2 after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new
store, approximately one-fourth the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is
located at 512 Ventu Park Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days
a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new,
convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh
produce and pharmacy services.
Jill
Lederer, President/CEO of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of
Commerce said, “We are pleased to welcome this Walmart Neighborhood
Market to Thousand Oaks. This Walmart brings positive economic
impacts and permanent jobs to our community as well as providing an
affordable retail option for area residents. It will be a great
addition to our thriving business community.”
Smaller
Store, More Convenience
The
Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient
shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and
natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh
baked breads, deli and a bakery.
The
pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team
members can answer product and prescription questions and customers
can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community
Giving
The
grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants
from Walmart to local community groups. Additionally, the store
presented $6,000 in grants to area organizations last year, including
Newbury Park High School cheer squad, Newbury Park High School
booster club, Dentistry from the Heart and Casa Pacifica.
In
addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new
store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As
part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion
commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California
donated approximately 10.2 million pounds of food, in fiscal year
2013, or the equivalent of 8.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart
and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $26.3 million in fiscal
year 2013 in California alone. For more information on Walmart’s
fight against hunger, visit

New
Store, New Jobs
The
new store employs approximately 65 full- and part-time associates.
The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there
are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store
manager Jesus Corral began his Walmart career in 1993 as an overnight
stocker in Oxnard.
“We
are excited to provide a new shopping option for Thousand Oak
shoppers,” said Corral. “We look forward to seeing shoppers on
grand-opening day.”
A
Big Family Welcome
Walmart
is happy to be part of the Thousand Oaks community and is ready to
celebrate with residents on Saturday, April 5. A Big Family Welcome
will give customers a chance to meet Corral and enjoy fun family
activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food
samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3
p.m.
