store located at 9260 S. Houghton Road
Walmart creates approximately 200 new jobs
- Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
The new store is conveniently located in a developing area of Tucson, and will be open to shoppers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Tucson residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs, as well as pharmacy services.
"This Walmart will be a great addition to the Tucson community,” said Tucson Ward IV City Council Member and current Vice Mayor Shirley Scott. “This is the third Walmart to open in Ward IV in the past two years. We welcome the jobs, investment and, of course, the shopping convenience Walmart will bring to local residents. Walmart has been and continues to be a strong supporter of the Ward IV Back to School Bash for over 13 years. This free local event helps children get a jump start on school by providing them with school supplies, backpacks, a hot breakfast and a chance to win some great prizes."
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store will feature quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also will offer a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy will provide a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions, and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration will include presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Arizona donated approximately 10.3 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 8.6 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $20.5 million in fiscal year 2013 in Arizona alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store will employ approximately 200 full- and part-time associates, and Walmart is proud to offer its associates the opportunity to advance their careers. Store manager Lee Johnson began his Walmart career in 2002 as an hourly associate in the dairy department.
“I’m excited to be part of a company that continues to grow and invest in Tucson,” Johnson said. “My Walmart associates and I are committed to this community and to delivering the best shopping experience possible for our customers.”Join the Conversation
