LARGO, Fla., Feb. 28, 2014

– Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market Friday, March 7, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 9020 Ulmerton Road right off of Starkey Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

We are excited to welcome the new Walmart Neighborhood Market to the Largo community,” said Pinellas County Commission Chair Karen Seel. “I am excited about the more than 90 new jobs created by the opening of this store. And, the new Walmart Neighborhood Market will offer fresh produce, freshly baked breads, a bakery and self-serve deli, pharmacy and grocery services for local customers at the time most convenient for them. In addition, Walmart will celebrate the grand opening with presentation of $6,000 in grants to local community groups including Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast, Largo Middle School and Teen Tyne Productions. I am grateful for Walmart’s continued investment in our community and am excited to visit and shop at the new Neighborhood Market.”

Smaller Store, More Convenience

The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh baked breads, a bakery and self-serve deli with smoked pork loin ribs and rotisserie chicken. The Largo store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Recipients include Boys and Girls Club of the Sun Coast, Largo Middle School and Teen Tyne Productions.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Florida donated approximately 26.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 22.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $53.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Florida alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

Store manager Shane Dellus began his Walmart career in 2003 as an overnight stocker, an hourly associate.

We are excited to bring new jobs to the Largo community and to help residents save money so they can live better,” said Dellus. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy our grand-opening festivities, including vendor giveaways and promotions.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Largo community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, March 8. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Dellus and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
