WARREN,
Mich., Feb. 26, 2014
“Walmart returning to Warren is significant because the new modern store is located in the center of our city, and will bring upscale smaller businesses to the almost vacant 12 Mile-Van Dyke shopping center,” said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts. “For me, this is a major accomplishment because one of my goals as mayor was to bring the Tech Plaza to where it was 15 years ago – a shopping center that attracts customers from all neighborhoods in Warren.”
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $62,500 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients include Macomb Hope Center, Winning Futures, PRO Foundation, OT Foundation, Oakland County Community College Foundation Endowment Scholarship, Warren Police Department and Warren Fire Department.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Michigan donated approximately 12.7 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 10.6 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $25.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Michigan alone.
