MOBILE,
Ala., Jan. 27, 2014
– Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market Wednesday,
Jan. 29. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Friday, Jan. 31
at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a
Walmart Supercenter, is located at 6575 Airport Blvd. and is 24 hours
a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers
with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs,
including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“Additional
retail investment is good for Mobile, and a Walmart Neighborhood
Market in west Mobile is no exception,” said Bill Sisson, president
and CEO of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. “On behalf of the
Chamber, congratulations on the new store, and our very best wishes
for a successful future here.”
Smaller
Store, More Convenience
The
Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient
shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and
natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh
baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Mobile store is also
tailored to the community, offering local favorites.
The
pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team
members can answer product and prescription questions and customers
can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community
Giving
The
grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants
from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include
Baker High School Band, Baker High School Robotics Team, Boys &
Girls Club of South Alabama, Mission of Hope, National Alliance on
Mental Illness Mobile, Child Advocacy Center of Mobile and Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society.
In
addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new
store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As
part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion
commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Alabama
donated approximately 11.1 million pounds of food, in fiscal year
2013, or the equivalent of 9.2 million meals. Additionally, Walmart
and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $21.8 million in fiscal
year 2013 in Alabama alone. For more information on Walmart’s
fight against hunger, visit

The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Ronald Garrett began his Walmart career in 1999. “We are looking forward to providing Mobile residents with a nice and convenient shopping experience,” said Garrett. “We invite everyone to stop by during our grand opening to see the new store and take part in the celebration.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Mobile community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Feb. 1. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Garrett and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
