Donations of cash, food, refrigerated trucks, mobile pantries and other resources are changing lives across America. In 2010, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation launched "Fighting Hunger Together" – a $2 billion cash and in-kind commitment through 2015 to fight hunger in America.
For over 22 years, Walmart has been a faithful and significant contributor to the Topeka Rescue Mission’s challenge to fight poverty and hunger,” said Barry Feaker, Topeka Rescue Mission. “With rising food costs, a growing number of hungry families and without the generosity of many donors, we would not have been able to provide 545,048 meals to the hungry throughout Topeka in 2013. We are extremely grateful to partner with Walmart, as together we fight hunger in our community.”
“Today was an inspiring day for us at Walmart as we were able to learn about the strides 13 nonprofits are making to ensure Kansas residents can live better,” said Ryan Hoage, “With help from the Walmart Foundation, we were thrilled to be able to donate nearly $610,000 to support their efforts across the state. We look forward to following how each of these nonprofits change the landscape of Kansas one meal, dental check-up or educational class, at a time.”
In 2012, in Kansas, the Walmart Foundation awarded more than $6.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions to community groups that are positioned to address the needs of Kansas communities and make a significant social impact within Walmart’s core areas of giving: Hunger Relief & Healthy Eating, Sustainability, Career Opportunity and Women’s Economic Empowerment.
