WOODLAND, Calif., Jan. 9, 2014
– Walmart will open a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Woodland on Wednesday, Jan. 15 after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 215 California St. in Shade Tree Plaza, filling a former retail space, and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

As a community, we welcome the Walmart Neighborhood Market to Woodland," said Woodland Mayor Skip Davies. "Walmart continues to offer additional options for our residents with regards to both price and convenience."

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups including Beamer Park School, Freeman School, Woodland High School, the American Red Cross and Cache Creek Lodge.

In addition to the grants, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California donated approximately 10.2 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 8.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $26.3 million in fiscal year 2013 in California alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs about 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998 and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

The new Walmart Neighborhood Market offers a convenient grocery and pharmacy choice for customers who live and work in Northwest Woodland. The new store also brings the number of Woodland Walmart associates to about 400 across the retailer’s three area stores.

Store manager Carolina Pratt began her Walmart career in 1998 as a temporary associate in Yuba City.

I am looking forward to showing the residents of Woodland our new store and all it has to offer shoppers who are looking for convenience,” Pratt said. “We would like to invite the community to join us on Wednesday for the grand opening celebration to shop and enjoy the many vendors and giveaways that will be taking place throughout the day.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Woodland community and is ready to also celebrate with residents Saturday, Jan. 18. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Pratt and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m. at the store.
