FLORENCE, Ala., Jan. 8, 2014 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, Jan. 15, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store is at 2701 Cloverdale Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Florence residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

Congratulations to Walmart on their grand opening,” said Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock. “The new store opening at Cloverdale Road and Cox Creek Parkway is a great addition to our area. We appreciate the major investment Walmart has made in Florence and are grateful for their confidence and support in our community.  This new store will be a tremendous asset to our citizens on the western section of the city and county and we wish them continued success!”

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. It features one of the first drive-thru pharmacies in the area. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Alabama donated approximately 11.1 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 9.2 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $21.8 million in fiscal year 2013 in Alabama alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Todd Rasberry began his Walmart career in 1996 in the management training program at a store in Tupelo, Miss.

We are excited to bring this new Walmart to the Florence community,” said Rasberry. “Our customers are going to appreciate the freshness, the selection and the quality of our food for their one-stop shopping experience. Come out to our grand opening Wednesday, Jan. 15, and take a look. You will be glad you did.”

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Florence community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Jan. 18. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Rasberry and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
