  • Up to 95 jobs created by Homestead Walmart Neighborhood Market
  • Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

HOMESTEAD, Fla., Jan. 6, 2014 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, Jan. 15, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is centrally located at 1499 N. Homestead Blvd. and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

Our new Walmart Neighborhood Market will be an important addition to the Homestead community,” said Mayor Jeff Porter.

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli, rotisserie chicken, fresh produce and beer and wine. The Homestead store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups including City of Homestead Police Explorers, Life Pointe Church, Promised Land Therapy, Redland Church of the Nazarene, Somerset City Arts Conservatory, South Dade Senior High School, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Start Off Smart, Inc. and Zoo Miami.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Florida donated approximately 26.8 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 22.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $53.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Florida alone. New Store, New Jobs

The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

Store manager Steve Davidson began his Walmart career in 1999 as a cart pusher.

We are excited to be a part of the city of Homestead, and we are happy to bring new jobs and to save the community money and to help them live better,” said Davidson. “We hope the Homestead community will come out and support during our grand-opening festivities. We have lot of exciting events going on during the grand-opening festivities.

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Homestead community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Jan. 18. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Davidson and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
