Ind., Jan. 1, 2014
– Walmart will open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market in
Fishers on Wednesday, Jan. 15, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony
at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a
Walmart Supercenter, is located at 9354 Ambleside Drive near the
intersection of East 131st Street and State Road 37. It is open 24
hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local
customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping
needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“We are pleased to welcome Walmart as they open their first Walmart Neighborhood Market in Fishers,” said Fishers Town Council President John Weingardt. “The addition of 95 new jobs and the convenience of another retail option is great news for our community.”
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Fishers store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including Indiana brewed beers.
The pharmacy offers a full
range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer
product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health
and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Fishers YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Fishers Police Department, Girls on the Run of Hamilton County, Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundations, Heartland Church, Indiana Youth Services Association, Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County, Prevail, Inc. and St George Orthodox Church of Indianapolis.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Indiana donated approximately 16.4 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 13.7 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $31.7 million in fiscal year 2013 in Indiana alone. Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Mekey McAllen began her Walmart career in 1991 as a cashier.
“What a great asset to Fishers,” said McAllen. “I’m genuinely honored to be a part of this new store coming to this community.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Fishers community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Jan. 18. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet McAllen and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
