Walmart Adds Tablets to its Store Trade-In Program

BENTONVILLE, AR – Oct. 23, 2013 – Walmart today announced customers can now trade in their tablets at more than 3,600 stores and Sam’s Club locations nationwide. Similar to its new smartphone trade-in program, customers and members can receive up to $300 for their current tablet, which will then be applied toward the purchase of a new tablet.

“Once we launched our smartphone trade-in program earlier this fall, we quickly heard from customers that they also wanted a way to trade-in and up to a newer tablet,” said Steve Bratspies, executive vice president of general merchandise for Walmart U.S. “We listened and are happy to add tablets to our trade-in program just in time for the holidays.”

Starting at 9 a.m. local time today, Wednesday, Oct. 23, customers can bring their working tablets to an electronics department associate in their local Walmart or Sam’s Club. The value of the tablet will be determined based on the following questions on its condition and specifications:

  • Does it power on?
  • Is the display fully functional and free of dead spots?
  • Is the tablet and display completely free of cracks?
  • What is the wireless carrier?

Once the customer accepts the offer, the trade-in value will be applied to a new tablet of their choice. If a customer’s new tablet costs less than the trade-in value of the old tablet, he or she will receive the balance on a Walmart gift card.
Bratspies added, “Tablets are one of the fastest-growing categories in our stores and we are moving just as fast to ensure our customers have access to a wide selection of brand-name tablets at all price points. In fact, over the past 12 months, we’ve more than doubled our assortment to include tablets from Apple, Samsung, Google, Nabi, Barnes & Noble, Hisense and others.”

For more information, customers should visit their local Walmart store or Sam’s Club.
