- Up to 95 jobs created by Denver Walmart Neighborhood Market
- Store open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week
DENVER – Walmart opened a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, Oct. 2, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 2253 S. Monaco Parkway in the Villa Monaco shopping center and is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The new store provides local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
"The Walmart Neighborhood Market brings an important grocery to the residents of this neighborhood," said Kelly Brough, president and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. "The new jobs and activity will invigorate the shopping center and the larger community."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Denver store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including:
- Celestial Seasonings teas
- Boulder Canyon potato chips
- Izze sparkling juice
Walmart is pleased to offer locally grown produce in stores and partner with Colorado Proud growers like Antelope Hill Orchards. Visit http://youtu.be/G_dBqxooDaQ to learn more about Antelope Hill Orchards and their partnership with Walmart.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, plus a drive-through. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration included presentations of $45,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups including the Skyline Fire Department, Denver Police Department, Ellis Elementary School, and KIND: Kids In Need of Dentistry.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Colorado donated approximately 6.6 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 5.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $14.3 million in fiscal year 2013 in Colorado alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Mike McLane began his Walmart career in 2003 as an overnight produce stocker in Fort Collins, Colo.
"We are ready to celebrate with residents and serve as their grocery store and pharmacy. Everyone is invited to the grand-opening events," said McLane. "We look forward to helping the people of our community save money so they can live better."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Denver community and celebrates with residents on Saturday, Oct. 5. A Big Family Welcome gives customers a chance to meet McLane and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
