CROSS ROADS, Texas, Oct. 2, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, Oct. 9, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The new store at 11700 U.S. Highway 380 is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Cross Roads residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"The Walmart Supercenter will be an excellent anchor for the 380 Corridor business district. The economic impact will be significant to the entire Aubrey 380 Area as a result of the present employment opportunities and additional business development being attracted to the surrounding areas. The Aubrey 380 Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome the new Walmart Supercenter," said Chamber Director David Painter.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients include Aubrey Area Library, Aubrey Fire Department, Chavez Elementary, HL Brockette Elementary, Monaco Elementary and Krugerville Police Department.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Texas donated approximately 43.7 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 36.4 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $86.2 million in fiscal year 2013 in Texas alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Tony Quintero began his Walmart career in 1996 as a cart pusher, an hourly associate, in the Sulphur Springs store.
"I'm excited to serve as manager for this new store and oversee all that it will bring to the community. The residents of Cross Roads have been waiting for this store for a long time, so I'm delighted to help bring it to them," said Quintero. "We invite the entire Cross Roads community to join us for our grand-opening week celebration."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Cross Roads community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Oct. 12. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Quintero and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
