Store brings smaller format, fresh produce and pharmacy to the community
WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Sept. 12, 2013 – Williamsburg residents are invited to attend the grand opening of the Walmart Neighborhood Market, which opens its doors in Settler's Market Wednesday, Sept. 18, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 a.m. The new store, located at 4670 Casey Blvd., brings customers a new, convenient option for their grocery and other shopping needs.
At approximately 43,000 square feet, the new store is about one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter and offers quick and convenient shopping. It will offer low prices on high-quality groceries and general merchandise, including fresh produce, deli, paper goods, pet products, hardware and pharmacy services. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
"James City County is pleased to be among the first localities to welcome a Walmart Neighborhood Market," said John McGlennon, James City County Board of Supervisors. "This new concept is sure to find a broad customer base among our residents and visitors, and its location in the Settler's Market area of New Town makes it yet another draw to this vibrant consumer center."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
Walmart Neighborhood Markets debuted in 1998, and now there are more than 250 stores across the country. They feature a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections, prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery. The Williamsburg store will feature a section of fresh, local produce known as "Virginia's Finest."
The store will also feature financial services and Walmart Site-to-Store, which allows customers to order merchandise online at Walmart.com and have it shipped to the Williamsburg store for pickup.
Store manager Jason Robinson started his Walmart career in 2000 as an overnight stocker at a store in Newport News. During his 13 year Walmart career, he has served as shift manager and assistant manager at various stores across Virginia. This is Robinson's first time serving as a store manager.
"I started as an hourly associate and worked my way up through the company, reaching my goal of being a store manager," said Robinson. "If I can do it, I know my associates can. That's why I always tell them to put themselves in the position to learn the business."
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Henry Ranger will be the pharmacist at the new Williamsburg Neighborhood Market. Ranger received his undergraduate and pharmacy education at Hampton University in Hampton, Va. Ranger and pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $4,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include the Williamsburg Police Department, Williamsburg Fire Department, Williamsburg Kiwanis Club and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Williamsburg community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Sept. 21. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Robinson and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
