More Jobs and Grocery Options Coming to Orlando

Walmart Neighborhood Market brings smaller format, local fresh food favorites and employment opportunities to the community

  • New Walmart Neighborhood Market located at The Shoppes of South Semoran
  • Up to 95 jobs created by Orlando Walmart Neighborhood Market
  • Store open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 12, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, Sept. 18, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 4520 S. Semoran Blvd., in The Shoppes of South Semoran, and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

"Residents along South Semoran had become accustomed to having a grocery store near the intersection of Pershing and Semoran until the previous tenant closed its doors two year ago," said Orlando City Council Commissioner Jim Gray. "Walmart's decision to open a Walmart Neighborhood Market at that location fills an empty storefront, creates jobs for residents and provides another amenity for grocery and pharmacy items along the fast-growing corridor."

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli, a bakery, rotisserie chicken, and beer and wine. The Orlando store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including a wide selection of Hispanic products.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include Semoran Business Partnership, Orlando After-School All-Stars, Inc., New Beginnings Church, Citrus Square Recreation Site, Boy Scouts of America- Central Florida Council, Best Buddies International, Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge, Adult Literacy League, Inc. and A.E.M. Post 4287 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

"We are thrilled with Walmart's involvement in our community through job creation and helping re-develop the Semoran Corridor," said City Commissioner Tony Ortiz. "Walmart is a vibrant partner of the City of Orlando."

Store manager Kit Patrick began his Walmart career in 1989 as a cart pusher.

"We are pleased to bring a new Walmart Neighborhood Market to the South Semoran area of Orlando," said Patrick. "We look forward to being part of this community and bringing convenience and everyday low prices to our customers. We invite all our neighbors to come by during our grand opening festivities to see the new store and take advantage of vendor giveaways and promotions."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Orlando community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Sept. 21. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Patrick and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
