New Walmart provides approximately 300 jobs, plus savings on wide selection of merchandise

DELANO, Calif., Aug. 12, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, Aug. 14, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 530 Woollomes Ave. is conveniently located in Delano Marketplace at the northwest corner of Woollomes and South Garzoli avenues and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"The addition of 300 new jobs to our city is welcome news," said Delano Mayor Joe Aguirre. "This one stop shopping convenience will be a benefit to many consumers in and around Delano. I am pleased to welcome Walmart as a partner in our community."
The store will provide Delano residents with a new convenient location for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"Walmart has been a generous partner for many Kern County communities," said Mick Gleason, District 1 Kern County Supervisor. "The hundreds of new jobs are a great addition for the City of Delano and our region."
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Local fresh produce will be available along with other local products.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services, plus a convenient drive-thru. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including the City of Delano to help upgrade the Leonard T. Velasco Technology Center which is open to the public, Delano High School Tiger Band Program, Delano Historical Society, DT Helmet Club, American Legion Merle Reed Post 124 to start a food and clothing program for military veterans, and to the Kern County Fire Department for its fire safety and prevention education program.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Chris Fulmer began his Walmart career in 2003 as an hourly associate in the Lawn and Garden Center in Lincoln, Neb.
"We are excited to add a new Walmart to Delano and bring good jobs with great career opportunities to the area," said Fulmer. "We invite the public to join us for the grand-opening celebration events and specials throughout the week."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Delano community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Aug. 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Fulmer and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
