MERIDIAN, Idaho, August 12, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, Aug. 14, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 795 W. Overland Road is conveniently located and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Meridian residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

"Walmart has been a valued community partner that has supported a number of city programs," said Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd. "Their newest location in our community brings a needed and much-requested service to the south side of our city. It will be the first grocery store in the area. The store will give our residents improved convenience for their shopping needs and will help people spend more time with their families and on other activities."

One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Falls Brand, Dairygold, Berry Ranch, Franz Bakery, Treasure Valley Salsa and Rodriguez Hispanic Foods.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of $5,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including Boys and Girls Club of Ada County, Friends of Children and Families Inc., Kuna Community Food Bank, Meridian Food Bank and Kuna Emergency Services Association.

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 200 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Van LeFevre began his Walmart career in 2000 as an assembler, an hourly associate.

"Our associates can't wait to open the doors to our beautiful new store," said LeFevre. "We are excited to add another Walmart to Meridian and look forward to welcoming shoppers on grand-opening day."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Meridian community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, August 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet LeFevre and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
