KERMAN, Calif., August 12, 2013 – A new Walmart will open Wednesday, Aug. 14, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 14061 W. Whitesbridge Ave. is conveniently located at the corner of West Whitesbridge and South Goldenrod avenues and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Kerman residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
"Congratulations to Walmart on the grand opening of their new store in the City of Kerman," said Kerman city manager Luis Patlan. "The new Walmart store is the latest in a series of significant new projects developed in Kerman in recent years that have added new jobs for local residents, convenient access to goods and additional sales tax dollars to support city services."
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic selections, fresh dairy and meat departments and local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Recipients include:
- Sun Empire Elementary School for their library program and educational field trip program
- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- Kerman Floyd Elementary School for their community garden
- Kerman Police Department for their community safety program
- Kerman Middle School for their classroom infrastructure
- Kerman High School for their STEM club
- Golden Rod Elementary School for their community service program
- Liberty Elementary School for their classroom infrastructure
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Emilio Baca began his Walmart career in 1996 as a part-time cart attendant.
"We're excited to invite the residents of Kerman to see our beautiful new store on August 14," said Baca. "Our associates are ready to help bring everyday convenience to the community."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Kerman community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Aug. 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Baca and enjoy fun family activities such as an obstacle course, a bounce house, face painting, a hot dog barbeque, cupcake decorating and free food samples for new products available throughout the store.
