VACAVILLE, Calif., Aug. 12, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Aug. 14 after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 2050 Nut Tree Road at the intersection of Elmira Road and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

"We are pleased that Walmart continues to invest in the City of Vacaville," said Mark Creffield, President and CEO of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce. "Not only has the new Walmart Neighborhood Market revitalized the old Rite Aid building at Nut Tree and Elmira, it has provided approximately 95 jobs for our community."

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $4,500 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups:

  • The Leaven
  • Vacaville Boys & Girls Club
  • Vaca Rena Middle School
  • Vacaville Public Education Fund

New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

Store Manager Julie Phillips began her Walmart career in 1992 as a cashier, an hourly associate.

"We are very excited to bring an additional Walmart Neighborhood Market to the Vacaville community," said Phillips. "I look forward to providing local residents a way to save money and live better as well as having the opportunity to give back to the community."

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Vacaville community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Aug. 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Phillips and enjoy free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
