HOOVER, Ala., Aug. 7, 2013 – Walmart will open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, Aug. 14, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 3320 Lorna Road and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
"The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will help to revitalize this shopping area and provide an important area of Hoover with shopping opportunities that residents haven't had in a few years," said Hoover area Chamber of Commerce executive director Bill Powell. "In addition, Walmart will be providing grants to our local charities and service organizations for years to come. On behalf of the Hoover area Chamber of Commerce, we welcome this Walmart Neighborhood Market to the City of Hoover."
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli, a bakery, beer and wine.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Mike Chandler began his Walmart career in 2001 as a food co-manager at a store in Bessemer. He has over 25 years of retail grocery experience.
"With our smaller format, our customers will be able to find what they need quickly and move along their way," said Chandler. "I hope everyone comes out on grand-opening day to see all the great things we will have going on."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Hoover community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Aug. 17. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Chandler and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
