COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 2, 2013 – Walmart will open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Friday, Aug. 2, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-fourth the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 1725 Union Blvd. near the Patty Jewett area and is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., daily. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
"The new Walmart Neighborhood Market at Union Boulevard will be a great asset to the neighborhood by providing additional shopping opportunities for residents and convenient access to fresh foods which is critical to the well-being of our community," said Colorado Springs City Council member Jill Gaebler. "Creating jobs for Colorado Springs is a priority for me, my fellow council members and Mayor Steve Bach. I am happy that up to 95 jobs will be created in my district by the new Walmart Neighborhood Market," added Gaebler.
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Colorado Springs store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites, including:

- Mission Foods products
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Ulises Estrada began his Walmart career 14 years ago as an hourly associate stocking pet supplies in La Junta.
"I grew up in Colorado and have shopped at Walmart my entire life," said Estrada. "I look forward to getting to know our customers and hearing their input and suggestions for this new store in their neighborhood. I hope to see them at our grand-opening events."
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Colorado Springs community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, Aug. 3. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Estrada and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
